[ there'd be a few early attempts in getting through with their initial arrival, mostly just voice messages calling out her name, trying to grab a response, and reminding her to not do anything too reckless. when he hadn't gotten through to either of the doctors either, he figured they'd be with her, and at least he could feel the ease that they'd at least keep an eye on her.
with the comms finally coming through, he gets some of her messages in turn, letting him know she's alright, that she's with marta too, and he exhales a relieved breath before trying her again. ]
Clara? No excuses this time. Should be working. Tell me you're there.
[ the voice is different though. not the one she knows. though — well, if anyone would understand it, she would. ]
[The voice isn't the one she's used to hearing. But she can hear his concern for her loud and clear. She fumbles to switch from voice to video, so he can see the relief on her face. He can also see that she's doing just fine.]
I tried getting through over and over, but -
[Well, that doesn't matter now.]
I'm guessing by the change in your voice that things are interesting where you're at?
[ when she switches to video, he does the same, looking at her for the first time with his own eyes. at least he doesn't have to explain it too much; he'd told her all about himself, about different sleeves, about having been in a body that wasn't his, but he hadn't actually thought he'd ever be showing her.
he sighs with relief in seeing her, looking plenty safe despite what he's heard about that side of things. ]
Yeah. Ended up with this little surprise when I got here. Some people just got scars healed, minor fixes. Me, I ... got my own body back.
[She's unable to keep from smiling when she sees his face. His real face, she supposes. Though any face he walks around with is his, and although she's gotten quite up close and personal with the face he normally runs around in -
Well, there's something she enjoys about being able to see the face he was born with.]
Sounds like you lot lucked out. [Getting things healed and all. Her hands goes to press against the back of her neck as she wonders if being sent there would've erased her chronolock for a while.] It's been miserable here.
[ he knows she would have been familiar with the idea but it's still — strange. the way she's comfortable with it, smiling so easily at him, at the face that's really his own, like it doesn't take much for her to slip into it almost as easily as it does for him to fit into the sleeve again. maybe she'd been right, about knowing his eyes.
but he frowns when she references her own experiences, concern returning to his expression. ]
[Even with a different face, the concern in his eyes is easy to read. And it makes her hesitate, reaching up to rub the back of her head as her eyes avert momentarily.]
Not really. I was just attacked, but managed to escape with only a few bumps and bruises. I had been working to...acquire money to get to people here, thinking they could buy their way up to Taeum if they had enough. I was so stupid to think it would work.
Not only that, but that this place wouldn't corrupt them and make their greed turn them into monsters.
[Her head hangs, frown deeply set on her face. She wants to help so badly, wants to do good. But it feels like every mission where she tries, she only winds up making things worse somehow.]
